Are you planning a trip to Puglia in Italy? Then you should definitely make a stopover in the small village of Locorotondo and spend the night in the beautiful B&B 1783 Dimora d’Epoca. The small hotel in the middle of the old town has just six rooms and has been lovingly renovated.
After our trip to Sri Lanka, we traveled through Puglia at the beginning of August 2021 and actually only wanted to stay in Locorotondo for one night because there was a music festival there. In the end, we stayed five nights because we loved it so much.
Locorotondo: Circular old town
Locorotondo translates as “round place” because the old town is circular on a hill. There are countless small alleyways with stores and restaurants and even its own vineyard, more on this below.
The nearest major airport in Apulia is in Bari. Lufthansa flies almost daily from Frankfurt to Bari in summer, and the flights can also be paid for with Miles & More miles. From Bari it is just under an hour by car to Locorotondo.

The B&B 1783 Dimora d’Epoca is located in the middle of the bustling city center: a lovingly restored hotel with just six rooms.
When we were there, it had just opened after many years of work. The family told us that it took many years for all the renovation work to be completed.
But the effort was worth it: the hotel shines in white tones inside and out. The furnishings are lovingly minimalist and of very high quality.

Downstairs is a kind of living and dining room, where breakfast is also served. The rooms are located on the upper floors.
At the very top, a large roof terrace on several levels invites you to relax. Although it doesn’t have a great sea view like the Avanti Hotel on Fuerteventura, it is still beautifully and lovingly designed.

We had room number 6 right at the top – on the same level as the roof terrace. The ceiling was vaulted and there was a large, very comfortable bed underneath.
The bathroom was large and excellently equipped. High-quality, matt gold fittings and a large shower.

All floors can also be reached by a small, glass elevator. If you take it down to the basement, you are in for a surprise: the old cistern has been transformed into a beautiful grotto with a huge whirlpool.
A waterfall comes from above, thousands of air bubbles from below. Cozy lighting and candles create a wonderful atmosphere.

The breakfast was rich and traditional, we were able to make special requests at any time and choose whether we wanted to have breakfast inside or outside. There was a small buffet as well as hot dishes to order.

The only downside to our stay was the parking situation in Locorotondo. As the B&B is located in the old town, you can’t park directly in front of it.
There are a few parking facilities on the outskirts of the village, the walk to the hotel is 5-10 minutes. This is generally not a problem, but not easy with a lot of luggage.
Viva Festival in Locorotondo
The reason for our stay in Locorotondo was the Viva Festival, a multi-day event focusing on electronic music and art.
There was a large stage on a nearby farm with a performance by John Talabot, who played spontaneously at sunrise on Cala Masciola the next morning until the party was broken up by the police.
The festival takes place every year in midsummer.

The town of Locorotondo is situated on a hill almost 500 meters high, and there is even a small vineyard on the edge of the town. D
he special thing: The winegrowers of the Bufano winery offer small tables between the vines where you can order a bottle of wine and small snacks.
The atmosphere is wonderful, especially in the evening.
